Making an impact where it matters

The Work We Do

Karama Organization mission in its core is creating opportunities for the most vulnerable in society. So that they can fully participate. In order for them to enjoy their full human rights. Who are those most vulnerable? Our target group are children growing up in refugee camps, and women leading low-income households. We are established in Deheishe Camp in Palestine and aim to serve those in need in the southern half of the West Bank.

Allowing Kids to be Kids

Sometimes our work is as simple as making a kid smile. Our children have the right to grow up free from violence & trauma, but the reality is dark. Therefore, fun and education are much needed.

Karama's Focus Areas

Women

Karama organizes workshops, training opportunities, social activities and other programs that particularly aim to empower women in society.

Children

Karama supports the educational and recreational opportunities for the children growing up in the refugee camps. We open our community center for them, but also work with local stakeholders like the UNRWA to increase their prospects for a brighter, more dignified, future.

Food Security

We support vulnerable households to improve their food security by establishing rooftop greenhouses in the camp for food production since 2011. Karama wants household to reduce their negative coping mechanisms, like reducing their spending on healthy food, and promote low-chemical (or organic) local food production.

Entrepreneurship

Setting up a business is not only a way to create additional income, but also an empowering activity that increases the visibility and voice of women in society. Karama has supported women from different refugee camps through training, workshops, branding support, investment and marketing connections.

Emergency Support

In a fragile context like Palestine, the next emergency is just around the corner. Karama supports households with emergency distributions, restorations and Cash-for-Work as well as different COVID19 related activities.

Transparency

Example of How Karama Spends its Funds

From 2021’s food distribution programs exactly 90% went into the actual packages that were distributed (including dry foods and fresh products). 3.6% was used for visibility (shooting photos and short videos to communicate our impact), 3.2% was for fees for volunteers and the coordinator, less than 1% for local transport and communication and the remaining 2.4% covered expenses from Karama Organization.
