Thousands of people have supported Karama’s work. Join them and make a difference in a refugee’s life.

Karama welcomes visitors all-year round to experience our work first-hand.

Where it all began

Who is Karama?

Karama Organization is a Palestinian non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established in 2002 in Bethlehem. Working with and for refugee women and children, we are covering five refugee camps in the southern half of the West Bank. Karama hopes to restore a sense of dignity among a population harmed by years of occupation and hopelessness.

Karama gives

Hope.

Karama wants to be a source of hope and positivity among the grey, cramped walls of the refugee camps. Here our young generation needs to be able to believe in a different future, in a better world for all. Over the years, we continue to respond to the most pressing needs.

How we work

Participatory project design

The needs of the communities drive the design of our projects. Local staff leads the prioritization of our actions, not outside agendas.

Dignified partnerships

Our relationship with project participants should lead to self-reliance, and not create of cycle of dependency on aid. Karama is also conscious with whom it establishes global partnerships, not accepting conditions that harm our beneficiaries or our national community.

Advocacy and being a source of lived-through information

Karama staff hopes to be a source of inspiration and knowledge about the Palestinian cause. Either when volunteers visit us for a eye-opening experience, through our global exchange program or online presence.

Words From our People

  • “My Greenhouse changed my life; it is now part of my family’s daily routine and provides a positive outlet for my stresses. My husband and I work in it together, and it has made a positive impact on our relationship.”

  • “Najwa from the Deheisha camp got employed in Makken’s prduction unit. At the beginning, she joined in order to improve her financial situation. Now she says it is also a way for her to feel powerful and do something she loves.”

  • “The cash for work program helped me in a very critical time. When COVID spread and we were under lockdown, I lost my job, which meant I stopped having any income to help my family. As soon as Karama made the announcement for the cash program I registered, and benefited from the activity while also contributing to my neighborhood. It is the best program in the camp for such difficult situations.”

  • “I had two of my most successful harvest seasons during COVID19. I was very happy to stay connected with the agricultural engineer through continuous video calls; she guided me through the entire planting seasons.”

social businesses supported by Karama

Improving food security for refugee households, while empowering women in the process; this idea has been implemented since 2012.

Building on Karama’s wish for more sustainable, entrepreneurial initiatives for the refugee community, this social business was established in Deheishe Camp.
