Next Week

Photo Project:

This coming week, we will identify local children and teenagers to participate in a photography project. They will be given cameras and asked to take as many pictures as they can over the period of a week of their life and activities in Deheishe and Bethlehem. The project will run for an indefinite period of time and involve as many of the young residents of the camp as possible with the long term goal of establishing an image database of challenges and joys of life here. In the short term, we will print and display select photographs as part of a special display in the general room here at Karama, as well as exportation for photo exhibitions abroad.

Yoga Class:

Betsy, our new Volunteer from the US, will set up a yoga and aerobic class for the women of Deheishe. At least five times a week, we will provide a good workout and some much needed relaxation.
We still have to find a solution to the challenge of finding something resembling yoga mats. Maybe we can use big towels or a carpet?

Stories Myths and Fairytales:

For our youngest children, we are initiating a storytelling program. Osama, one of our local volunteers is going to tell the kids stories and fairytales in Arabic. We want the children to listen every time to a story from another country or culture. Initially, the stories will come from our volunteers, who will explain the myths and their context to Osama. This program will take place in our main room, twice a week.
