Karama's educational project (report) since June 2005 until March 2006  

Karama has started the education project which is supported be the Austrian Development Cooperation, since June 2005.  
1-The full-time teacher working up to 48 hours a week, dedicating part of his time
(about 8 hours per week) to administrational tasks, as he is the education supervisor for the Education preject
 
2-The part-time teachers thy are working 12 hours a week each. Each day, one or more teachers are available for homework supervision for about 4.5 hours (31.5 hours per week). In their remaining time they giving lessons.
3- the information center is opening most of the day

Karama organizations takes on its responsibility to solve the educational problems that most of the pupils and women in Dehesheh refugees' camp are facing, especially in the English language, math and the  Arabic language.

The first Trail of Karama,
Karama depends since its establish on the volunteers, who convinced at the principle of what Karama seek for .All volunteers put all their efforts to contribute and develop the trail of Karama.

English language,
Karama educational project gives more concern at English to establish and  develop the pupils skills  by giving them a lot of extra courses as:

1. the kids: to establish their abilities by the education project empluye as the volunteers "Tamer al-Khomour. Jessica and Paul.
2. courses to the  basic stage by Tamer . Jessica, Beia and Hannah.
3. courses for women.

Math
The aim is to give many courses in Karama, is to solve the problem that the students face in all stages and to be able to understand the new  material.

1. intensive course to basic grade by volunteer Khalid Abu Laban, and Wae'l Shehada(Full-time teacher)
2. courses to the high school "Tawjehi" by Wae'l Shehada (Full-time teacher)

computers
the aim to give this course is to introduce the students with the importance of  the computer and to know how to deal with it and to work on:

1. Microsoft word program
2. power point program
3. internet.

The experiment  of Karama now
The effort of Karama education increased because a number of students come seeking for solving their educational problem especially in English and math. So Karama has contracted with the teacher of English.
Khader Abu Obeid (Part-time teacher), and Wae'l Shehada to work Full-time since 2005.

English language
The organization helps 30 students and the timetable is as  the following
- Tawjehi (high school): three lectures weekly.

- Eleven grade:  three hours weekly
- Tenth grade:  three hours  weekly.
As he help for home works.
- The pupils under the age of thirteen by the volunteer Tamer and (Rabab Marwan) Part-time teacher .

Math

The organization helps 85 (boys and girls) as the following:
- High school: four  hours weekly
- Eleventh grade:  three hours weekly "scientific"
- Eleventh grade:  three hours "literary"
- Tenth grade:  three hours weekly
- Ninth grade:  three hours
- Eighth grade:  three hours
     - Seventh grade : three hours
And the rest working as supervisor and helps with home works as the administrational tasks .
Arabic language
High school for four hours weekly with the teacher Muhammad Abu Ajamea.
The General science
The high school for three hours every week with Muhammad Rakaban.

Computer

This organization provides a help to one hundred guy (boys and girls) in computer area through :

1. elementary course to the boys and girls.
2. internet for all.

first computer courses
The organization provides high courses to three of its volunteers in one of specialist in city. Through these employees and volunteers, the organization gives many courses of computers for two months to the members of the organization for both sex.
Nowadays the organization provides many courses as the following :

1. course to boys and girls (10 -13 years old) with  the part time teacher Rabab Marwan 4 hours  a week.
2. courses  to 13 -15 years old students given  by Rabab Marwan two and half 4.30 hours a week.
3. as she give arbice language 6 hours aweek for differant levels to help with home works.
4. course for woman to helpe the to get to know how to use the computer (three hours a week).

The Karama's general library.

As result of the karama educational project which is funded by the Austrian
In 2006, Karama has opened its general library, which came as a result of the big efforts that Karama does, to create a central cultural opinion, which helps the students and pupil with many ways:
1.  the general edification for all ages.

1. educating women in health, education and in their rights and duties.
2.  developing the children's knowledge and skills in all the cultural ways and sides.
3.  filling the children's time in reading the  interesting international stories.
4.   helping the universities student with writing researches by finding the  sources and authorities.
5. to buildup a stronger relationship between the readers and their society and humanity, by getting knowledge on religion and habits which relates to the Palestinian society.

All of that is done by karam's volunteer Fayez al-Khomour: and karama's (part time teacher) Rabab Marwan  . Fayez and Rabab who are working at the library in deferent shifts, and they also do the activities which relates to the library and especially the cultural competitions between the children.
If this is the beginning and with only one thousand books we get  one hundred beneficial every week, so you could imagine the useful from this library in the future when the  number of  the books become tens of thousands.

The subject (women's voice)
Introduction: this subject is a part of Karama educational project.
The benefits sector: the university girls students (from 18 years old and above).
Hold by the Part-time teacher (Rabab) and Zahera
The aim (objectives) :

1. to know the importance of women in the society .
2. to develop  some abilities and skills to the young  girl to enable them under take important position in the society.
3. to operate the young girls participation in various activates which are being  held in Karama and other societies.
4. to discuss many issues concern with the problems that the women suffer from, and obstacles they face in the society .
5. to know all the positions that women take place procedures.
6. to gather a number of young girls to participate in this issues.
7. to know the important subject that they want to discuss.
8. to present many issues by supervisor and discuss with young girls
9. to try to meet women in effective positions in the society, and to take advantage from their experience.
10. to try to help some young girls to be able to be a leader in the society as the others.
11. to participate in any lectures or discussions or festivals held by any society  or organization concern  with the women issues.

subjects:

• some problems that they face such as early marriage , a limited opportunity to take a decision, and regulations expose on them.
• work  dominated by men but they can do it as trade, drive and other jobs that  the society refuses to give the women an opportunity to work in it.

1. Aktuelle Aktivitäten:
 

Computer-Kurse
Zwei unserer Karama-Jugendlichen bieten vier mal wöchentlich Computer-Kurse für Jungen und Mädchen an. Es gibt einen Anfänger-Kurs, bei dem die Teilnehmer in die grundlegenden Kenntnisse von Microsoft eingeführt werden. In einem Kurs für Fortgeschrittene lernen die Kids, wie sie ihre eigene Website erstellen und bearbeiten können. Zweimal die Woche treffen sich einige der älteren Jugendlichen, um ihr Wissen über Webdesign sowie Programmieren zu vertiefen und auszuweiten.
Karamas Computer-Zentrum kann darüberhinaus jederzeit genutzt werden, um an der neuen Ausgabe des monatlich veröffentlichten Karama-Magazins zu arbeiten.


Englisch-Unterricht
Wegen grosser Nachfrage hat Karama das Angebot am Englisch-Unterricht ausgeweitet. So gibt die deutsche Volontärin Jessica momentan neun mal die Woche Englisch-Kurse für die Klassenstufen 5 bis 11. Zusätzlich zum Unterrichten nach herkömmlichen Schulbüchern, versucht Karama neue Wege zu finden, um den Schüler/innen das Erlernen einer Fremdsprache zu erleichtern. Jede Woche werden wir ein "English For Fun"-Workshop anbieten, bei dem die Kinder mit Hilfe von englischen Spielen, Liedern, Kochrezepten uvm. interaktiv an die Sprache herangeführt werden sollen. Außerdem wollen wir in Zukunft kleinere Ausflüge in die Umgebung von Deheishe organisieren, bei denen die Kids neue Vokabeln für Dinge lernen, die sie draußen sehen, riechen und anfassen können.


Dabka
Eines der beliebtesten Projekte im Karama-Zentrum ist mit Sicherheit der Dabka-Workshop. Zweimal die Woche treffen sich sowohl Jungen als auch Mädchen, um gemeinsam den traditionellen arabischen Tanz zu lernen und zu üben. Einer der Jungs aus der Tanzgruppe hat dabei die Verantwortung und Leitung des Kurses übernommen.
Über die regulären Treffen hinaus, nutzen die Teilnehmer jede freie Minute, um in einem der Karama-Räume Dabka zu tanzen und das Gelernte an andere Kids weiterzugeben.


Psychologische Betreuung
Einmal die Woche kommt die Sozialarbeiterin Zahira ins Karama-Zentrum, um sich um die Bedürfnisse speziell von Mädchen und jungen Frauen zu kümmern. In einem geschlossenen Treffen werden sie ermutigt, über alles zu sprechen und zu diskutieren, was ihnen auf der Seele brennt (Probleme, Ideen, Wünsche, Ängste…), ohne dabei von anderen gestört zu werden.
Mittels von selbst erstellten Bildern, Kollagen u.a. tauschen sie sich gegenseitige über ihre Erfahrungen und Gedanken aus und können diese somit gleichzeitig verarbeiten.
 

Nachhilfe für Studenten
Viele junge Menschen aus Deheishe besuchen die Offene Universität in Bethlehem . Da einige von ihnen nebenher arbeiten, um Geld für ihre Familien zu verdienen, nehmen sie nur unregelmäßig an den Vorlesungen teil. Nach der Arbeit holen sie den Unterrichtsstoff zu Hause nach, was sich ohne fremde Hilfe oft als schwierig erweißt.
Wa'el, ein Karama-Freiwilliger, der bereits Mathematikunterricht für Schüler/innen erteilt, bietet daher im Karama-Zentrum Nachhilfekurse für Studenten seines Studienganges an. Über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Monaten wird er 3-4 mal die Woche zwei Gruppen von jungen Männern in den Fächern Analyse und Mathematik Management auf deren Abschlussprüfungen vorbereiten.
 

Mathematiknachhilfe
Wie oben bereits erwähnt, bietet der junge Student Wa'el Mathematikunterricht für Schüler und Schülerinnen der Mittel- und Oberstufe an. In vier Gesschlechter getrennten Kursen werden Verständnisschwierigkeiten geklärt und Fragen beantwortet, für die in den 2 UN-Schulen von Deheishe aufgrund der enormen Klassenstärke (durchschnittlich 43 Schüler/ innen) oft keine Zeit bleibt.

 
2. Besondere Aktivitäten:
 

Ein "Nachmittag für Kleinkinder"
Vergangenen Freitag lud Karama zum zweiten mal Kinder im Alter von 4 bis 6 Jahren ein, einen netten Nachmittag im Zentrum zu verbringen. Organisiert und vorbereitet wurde dieser Tag selbständig von unseren älteren Karama-Kids. Zusammen mit den Jugendlichen spielten, tanzten, sangen und malten die Kinder den gesamten Nachmittag mit Begeisterung. Ebenfalls mit Freude und voller Aufmerksamkeit nahmen sie an ihrer ersten "Unterrichtsstunde" teil, bei der unsere Karama-Jugend ihnen arabische und englische Ziffern beibrachten.
Besonders Kinder leiden an den Bedingungen eines Lebens im Flüchtlingslagers. In Deheishe gibt es weder Spiel- und Sportplätze, öffentliche Kindergärten noch andere kindgerechte Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten. Da etwa 80% der erwachsenen Einwohner von Deheishe arbeitslos sind, können sich die meisten Familien kein Spiel- und Bastelzeug leisten, womit vor allem Kleinkinder wichtige Lernprozesse und Fertigkeiten erwerben sowie trainieren können. Für einige dieser Kinder bot der "Nachmittag für Kleinkinder" daher erstmals die Gelegenheit mit Spielzeugautos, Bausteinen und Puzzels zu spielen. Aus jenen Gründen wird Karama diesen besonderen Nachmittag jeden Freitag wiederholen.
