SANDRA RABBOW

My name is Sandra Rabbow.

I am living in Berlin, Germany and my subjects at university are education, islamic studies and sociology. I have been working with Karama for more than three years; in spring 2004, I have finally been able to visit the centre of the organization in Deheishe, West Bank.

During my stay in Bethlehem and Deheishe I organized a small photo project with the boys and girls who are frequently taking part in the numerous activities offered by Karama.

The aim of the project was to create room for the teenagers to reflect and think about places and persons inside the camp, which or who are important for them and their daily life - and to show the results to other people afterwards.
Besides getting practice in handling a camera, the boys and girls exchanged their thoughts and experiences about living inside a refugee camp while walking through the camp.

We also talked about the motives they have chosen and what they meant for them. From the developed pictures we created a "memory-game" which is now free for use in the Karama centre.

Moreover, I assisted in a drawing workshop which was held by a Palestinian artist. In this workshop, the children learned how to paint pottery, as an example.
