This week

Dabkah Dance

Mahmud - as the leader of this dancing group - is finally able to show his groups ability on stage. On Thursday 9th, 2009, they will perform in front of an audience in a womens hospital in Bethlehem. After such a hard training the last weeks - even during Ramadan - we are all excited to see the result. And obviously it is not just a challenge and some fun for Karama and the dance group, but also distraction for all the patients at the hospital! We hope it´s going to be a lot of fun!

A trip to Jericho

With 38 kids and 6 volunteers we made our way to Jericho on Monday. The whole group has been excited, as we drove with 2 buses through the checkpoints and finally arriving in the middle of the desert just a few km before Jericho. There we were able to ride camels and made a walk to a wonderful oasis, letting the children to enjoy and have fun in the water. After a hard walk back to the buses we went further to the beautiful city of Jericho - in arabic called Ariha. The day was still young, so we went to a Park with swimming pools, where everyone was able either to relax or to jump into the cold, refreshing water.
In the evening we made our way to a monastery up in the mountains, from which you have a wonderful view over Jericho, the Dead Sea and the borders to Jordan. With lots of new experiences and totally exhausted we made our way back to Deheishe, leaving a wonderful day behind us.

Volunteers

This week we had to say good bye to Olivier (from France). He has been working with Karama for 3 weeks, and was not only able to proof his computer talents, but also his passion to chess. He organized with the leader of the chess club a competition over the last two weeks.
But as we do not say good bye all the time, we also welcome new volunteers at Karama. Since saturday Michael and John (from the US) joined us at Karama. We are all looking forward to new ideas and the work together.
