    1. Present activities:
    Computer courses
Four times a week two of our youth are giving computer courses for girls and boys. The courses are devided into three different levels. Once a week "computer beginners" are introduced in the fundamental knowledge of dealing with Microsoft. A second course has formed to learn how to design and deal with an own website. Meanwhile some of the older kids meet twice a week to improve their abilities in web-design and programming.
Furthermore Karama's computer centre is used by the kids to prepare and write the new issue of the Karama magazine, which will be published every month.

    Dabka
One of the Kids' favourite projects is certain the Dabka workshop. Twice a week both boys and girls meet in the centre to learn and practice the traditional Arabic dance. For that purpose one boy out of the group has taken the responsibility and teaches the other participiants.

Beyond the regular meetings, Karama-Kids often use every available minute to dance and teach others Dabka in one of our rooms.

    English Lessons

The German volunteer Jessica is giving nine English lessons a week for 5 th until 11 th grade. Those days the courses are sometimes extended as the students are preparing for their half-year examminations. In addition to deal with common school books, Karama also tries to find other ways of teaching a foreign language to children and adolescents. Once a week we offer a "English For Fun"-workshop, where the kids can play English games (e.g. memory), sing and dance to English songs, cook and prepare food (e.g. salad to learn English vocabulary of fruits) and many more. Besides Karama is planning to arrange trips around the Deheishe area, where the kids will learn English words of what they can see and touch.

    Psychological Care

The social worker Zahira comes once a week to the Karama centre to take special care for girls and young women. In a closed meeting they are encouraged to speak and discuss about everything they like (problems, wishes, ideas, fears.) without beeing disturbed by others. By means of paintings, collages and others they exchange and digest their experiences and thoughts.

Assistance lessons for students of the University

In Deheishe there are a lot of young people studying at the Open University in Bethlehem . Some of them are going to work at the same time to earn money for their families. That is why those students are not able to join the open lectures regularly. In the evening after work, they try to catch up on the subjects which often prove to be difficulty without the help of others.
Wa'el, a Karama-volunteer giving already Mathmatics lessons for boys and girls now also offers assistance lessons in Analyse and Mathmatic management for the students of his study year. In a period of several months he will prepare two groups of young men for their final examinations 3 - 4 times a week.

    Mathmatics assisitance lessons

As mentioned earlier, the young student Wa'el offers six Mathmatics courses for boys and girls (in gender devided classes) joining Secondary and Highschool. Teachers of the two UN-schools in Deheishe usually are not able to take special care for students having difficulties of comprehension because of overcrowded classes (43 pupils per class on the average) and other obstacles caused by the Israelian occupation. For that reason Wa'el repeats single subjects and takes time for specific questions of the young students.

    2. Special activities:

    Infants Afternoon
Last Friday Karama invited for the second time little children in the age of 4 to 6 years to spend a nice afternoon in its centre. Beforehand Karama-Kids have prepared and organized this special day. Both teenager and infants played, danced, sang, painted and watched cartoons. Moreover Karama's youth gave the children their first little lesson in writing Arabic and English numbers.

Especially children suffer from the circumstances of the life in a refugee camp. In Deheishe there are neither playgrounds, public kindergardens nor other offers taking special care for them. Since approximately 80% of Deheishe's adults are unemployed, most of the families cannot afford toys or even painting equipment, which usually helps especially little children to improve and aquire skills and learning processes.
For some of these children the "Infants Afternoon" in the Karama centre was the first occasion to play with toy cars, blocks and puzzels. For that reason Karama will repeat this special activity every Friday.
