Donations are welcome and urgently needed!
Karama is an independent organization that could not survive without donations. We would be very happy if you could help Karama with a donation. The donated amount will be transferred directly to Karama Palestine and will be used for all our projects.
There are many ways we can use the donations. Here are some examples of our current activities, programs and projects:
Project house purchase
The house in Karama's activities take place is only rented. The rental costs take up a large part of the annual fund - nearly 2,000 Euro per year.
Available space is our greatest limiting factor when planning our educational course offered. For this reason, Karama would like to buy the house and to extend it. In order to continue expanding the diverse services that we offer to children, adolescents and women, we are saving up a portion of our funds to address this.
That's why Karama is searching for donors who support the project - for greater financial independence and more space for the children and adolescents of the center! Cost: 35,000 Euro
Summer Camp 2011
Every year Karama conducts two-week summer camps for about 80 children. This program has been among our greatest successes and the local children look forward to it all year. We would like the next summer camp to last three weeks and provide 200 children with a fun experience away from the streets of Deheishe. In order to fund the camp this year, we need to gather more support. Estimated cost: 12,000 Euro
Photography Project
We have started a photography project with local children and teenagers. They were given cameras and asked to take as many pictures as they can over the period of a week of their life and activities in Deheishe and Bethlehem. The project will run continuously to involve as many young residents of the camp as possible. We print and display select photos as part of a special display in the general room here at Karama. In the long term, we will establish an image database of the challenges and joys of life here in Deheishe and we will organise photo exhibitions abroad.
UNRWA School Work
Beside our Karama projects, we have started to run several indoor and outdoor activities in the UN schools for boys and girls in Deheishe. At least once a week we offer the students handicraft, art and sport classes. These schools are underfunded and overcrowded (averaging 40 students per teacher). In order to provide the needed material and resources, we rely on financial support.
Computer Center and Library
We have a small but practical repertoire of books, including teaching material for language classes. We always aim to improve our selection and allocate funds to acquire used textbooks and linguistic resources whenever possible. In addition, we desperately need to modernize our Computer Center. Some of our computers are simply old, and others broken-down because they are in constant use by many children.
Pocket money for the volunteers
About one dozen of young people from Deheishe work voluntarily for Karama. They are working as tutors, watch the children and give classes. Some of these tutors spend several hours on an almost daily basis with Karama without getting any money at all. But on the long run hardly any of the volunteers will be able to afford working for free. It does therefore happen quite regularly that volunteers who have absolutely no money left turn their back towards the organization and quit the job. In order to avoid this in the future, we would like to pay at least some pocket money to all tutors who regularly work for Karama - to keep them motivated and to preserve the continuity of Karama's work. Estimated cost: 8,000 Euro annually
We would greatly appreciate any support!
