Karama is an independent organization that could not survive without donations. We would be very happy if you would decide to financially help Karama with a donation. The donated amount will be transferred directly to Karama Palestine and will be used for all our projects
There are many ways we can apply the donations. Here are some examples of our current activities, programs and Projects:
Project house purchase
The house in which the activities of Karama take place at present, is only rented: Month after month, the rental costs take up a large part of the annual fund - nearly 2,000 Euro per year.
For this reason Karama would like to buy the house and to extend it. Even now, available space is our greatest limiting factor when planning our educational course offered. In order to continue expanding the diverse services that we offer to children, adolescents and women, we are saving up a portion of our funds to address this. This is our most pressing need, both for the immediate goal of more classroom space as well as for the long-term goal of reducing our organizational expenses.
Summer camp 2010
Each of the last several summers, Karama has conducted two weeks-long summer camps for about 80 children. This program has been among our greatest successes and the local children look forward to it all year. In order to fund the camp this coming year, we need to gather more support. We're planning for this next summer camp to last three weeks and provide 200 children with a fun experience away from the streets of Deheishe.
Photography Project
This winter, we will identify local children and teenagers to participate in a photography project. They will be given cameras and asked to take as many pictures as they can over the period of a week of their life and activities in Deheishe and Bethlehem, particularly during this upcoming holiday season. The project will run for an indefinite period of time and involve as many of the young residents of the camp as possible with the long term goal of establishing an image database of the challenges and joys of life here. In the short term, we will print and display select photographs as part of a special display in the general room here at Karama, as well as exportation for photo exhibitions abroad.
UNRWA School Work
Beside our Karama projects, we have started to run several indoor and outdoor activities in the UN schools for boys and girls in Deheishe. At least once a week we offer the students handicraft, art and sport classes. These schools are underfunded and overcrowded (averaging 40 students per teacher), In order to provide the needed material and the resources, we rely on financial support.
Computer Center/ Library
Our repertory of books and the teaching and studying equipment for the language classes is small, but functional. We are always aiming to improve our selection and allocate funds to acquire used texts and linguistic resources whenever possible. In addition, we desperately need to modernize our Computer Center. Some of our computers are simply old, and others broken-down under the weight of constant use by so many children. This is one of our most pressing needs and contributions of any size go a long way.
