Dalia

Dalia is a 12 year old aspiring world traveler. She wants to go to Denmark and Germany, and will hopefully have the chance to do so when Karama is next able to organize a trip in the coming year. She has lived her entire life in Deheishe, but must travel to school in nearby Beit Jala. There, English is her best subject, and she can converse near fluently. This makes her a very important person at Karama, as she is frequently called on to help non-Arabic speaking volunteers with their efforts. When she's not helping in that capacity, she is either dancing in the Dabka troupe or reading in the library.

Esther

Hailing from Frankfurt, Germany and answering to her Palestinian name of "Leila," Esther came seeking an unforgettable experience. She has become embedded in the Deheishe comunity, and we have all become accustom to her face.

She is bringing her time in Palestine to a close, but in her near three months with us, she has contributed her boundless energy to tackling the imposing task of maintaining our website and newsletter (although not this edition). Neither is an easy task, as our website alone boasts 10 languages (of which Esther only speaks three).

Aside from managing her myriad of administrative tasks, Esther also found the time to participate in our UNRWA school activities and feed the cats of Karama. While not as dangerous a job as feeding the lions of Tsavo, feeding the cats of Karama is a near full-time occupation, which Esther fullfilled with distinction.

When she finally departs from Palestine, Esther of the Traveling Face will journey to India and Nepal where she will no doubt continue to spread happiness and her unique German renditions of pop songs.
